Basal

In medicine, this term has several meanings:

- **Basal parts of the brain** (Latin corpus basale cerebri - “basic brain”), the lowest layer directly adjacent to the hemispheres and the visual thalamus. These include the basal nuclei, especially the caudate nucleolus, glia (ependyma and ependymogliocytes), choroid plexuses with their capillary network, which perform the functions of hematopoiesis, stroma of the optic nerve and olfactory bulbs. - Also, this concept is often understood as **very great depth** of something, for example: *"Basal longitude of the belt"* is when a person is in front of you at a distance of at least 5 km. This expression is taken from the book “The Black Obelisk” by Erich Maria Remarque
