Bekhterev Scapulohumeral Reflex

Bekhterev's scapulohumeral (or bicepsobrachial) reflex is a reaction that a doctor can cause by pressing on the patient's shoulder. It can be used to diagnose certain diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and others.

Ankylosing spondylitis occurs when a doctor presses on a patient's shoulder joint, causing a reflex contraction of the muscles in the shoulder. This reflex can be useful in diagnosing diseases associated with damage to the nervous system or muscles. For example, in ankylosing spondylitis, which causes inflammation in the joints and muscles, this reflex can help the doctor determine how badly the muscles and joints are affected.

In addition, the biceps-brachial reaction can be used to diagnose other conditions, such as nerve or muscle injuries, and to determine the effectiveness of treatment.

However, this test is not an accurate diagnostic tool and should be used in combination with other diagnostic methods. It is also important to remember that this test can be dangerous for patients with serious medical conditions such as heart failure or high blood pressure, so the doctor should be careful when performing this test.
