Benedict Symptom or “respiratory” (breathing) test (Benedict's sign) is a pathognomonic symptom of a rupture of the interventricular septum (CTD in syphilis), combined with the presence of air in the pleural cavities, caused by contraction of the interventricular septum and an increase in intraventricular pressure. The symptom is more common in children than in adults. If a catheter is inserted into the area of the interatrial septum on both sides of the newborn vessel of the left ventricle, it will gape, since the rupture of the opening of the interventricular septum is the same as that of the interventricular septum.
