Biasten: a combination drug for basic therapy of bronchial asthma
Biasten is a combination drug for inhalation used as basic therapy for bronchial asthma. The drug is produced in Russia by the company Pulmomed and contains two active ingredients - salbutamol and budesonide.
Salbutamol is a selective beta2-adrenergic agonist that dilates the bronchi and relieves smooth muscle spasms. Budesonide belongs to the group of glucocorticosteroids and has an anti-inflammatory effect, reducing swelling of the bronchial mucosa and reducing the amount of sputum.
Biasten is available in two dosage forms - powder for inhalation 100dz and powder for inhalation 200dz. The drug is not recommended for use in children under 16 years of age, pregnant women in the first and second trimesters, as well as in patients with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, active pulmonary tuberculosis, fungal, viral and bacterial infections of the respiratory system.
Possible side effects when using Biasten include irritation of the mucous membranes of the mouth and pharynx, cough, hoarseness, candidal stomatitis and pharyngitis, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting. In rare cases, a feeling of internal anxiety and mild tremor of skeletal muscles, headache, arterial hypotension, collapse, palpitations, paradoxical bronchospasm, skin rash, as well as psychoneurological symptoms such as increased nervous excitability, depression and behavioral disorders may occur.
Interaction of Biasten with other drugs may lead to increased side effects. When prescribing Biastene and inhibitors of the CYP3A4 enzyme (for example, ketoconazole, ritonavir), caution should be exercised, as the systemic effect of budesonide may be increased. Non-selective beta-adrenergic blockers, such as propranolol, are not recommended for use simultaneously with Biasten.
An overdose of Biasten can lead to tachycardia, weakness, decreased blood pressure and muscle tremors. If these symptoms occur, it is recommended to carry out symptomatic therapy and administer cardioselective beta-blockers.
The use of Biasten during breastfeeding should be carried out only after consultation with a doctor and with strict monitoring of the child’s condition.
When using Biasten, you must follow the doctor's recommendations and the dosage of the drug, without exceeding the recommended dose. The drug should be stored in a dry place at a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees Celsius.
In general, Biasten is an effective combination drug for the basic treatment of bronchial asthma, which combines the action of a beta2-adrenergic agonist and a glucocorticosteroid. However, like any other medicine, it can cause side effects and interact with other medicines. Therefore, before starting to use Biasten, you should consult your doctor.
