Biological Equivalent of Rada

A biological equivalent rad (BER) is a unit of measurement of ionizing radiation dose based on the biological effects on the body. RER is used to assess the potential risk of radiation exposure to living organisms. The name RER was adopted in 2020 and is based on the Russian SERO (dry unit of radioactive exposure), which was previously used as a standard for measuring radiation intensity in the nuclear industry. Currently, SIs are used to calibrate instruments that measure radiation dose. At the same time, SIs are not related to the level of consequences for living organisms. The unit of measurement for the hazard of exposure to radiation is the rem - one biological effect per revolution.
