Blepharitis Meibomian

Meibomian blepharitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the eyelid margins caused by dysfunction of the meibomian glands.

The Meibomian glands are located along the edge of the eyelids and secrete a lipid secretion that protects the tear film from rapid evaporation. With meibomian blepharitis, the excretory ducts of these glands become blocked, which leads to stagnation of the secretion. This causes irritation and inflammation of the eyelid skin.

The main symptoms of meibomian blepharitis:

  1. Redness, swelling and peeling of the skin of the eyelids
  2. Formation of scales in the eyelash area
  3. Itching, burning and foreign body sensation in the eyes
  4. Photophobia and lacrimation
  5. Mucopurulent discharge in the morning

Hygiene measures, eyelid massage, and warm compresses are used for treatment. Antibacterial ointments and drops and anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed from medications. Severe forms may require surgery.

Prevention involves careful eyelid skin care using cleansers. It is important to promptly treat chronic conjunctivitis and blepharoconjunctivitis and avoid allergens.

Blepharitis (meibomitis) is a skin disease of the eyelids, characterized by an inflammatory process on the edges of the eyelids - the ciliary margin (stigma), less often - on the mucous membrane of the eyelid (tear margin). It is characterized by damage to the eyelids by an inflammatory reaction leading to the formation of blisters, crusts, scales, and crusts. Sometimes it occurs on both upper and lower eyelids at the same time, in other cases only on one eye or only on the upper eyelid. In 75% of cases, the cause of the disease is Staphylococcus aureus, in 25% - microscopic fungi of the genus Candida and other microorganisms. Zolo
