The bone plate is a thin (from 3 to 5 mm), durable plate of bone tissue with a width of 4 mm and a length of 6–12 cm. It has the shape of a triangle with the base up, suitable for the periapical tissues of the roots of adjacent teeth. It is limited, narrows and takes on a finger-like shape towards the apex of the tooth root. On the side of the root crown, the outer surface of the plate is covered with cement. It is formed by two layers of bone tissue - periosteum and cementoblasts, and is also part of the intraradicular part of dental roots and interradicular septa. It has been proven that individual sections of the bone plate are resorbed bone from the interdental septa and sockets of previously removed teeth.
