Sulcus Temporal Superior

Article on the temporal superior sulcus

The furrows, or grooves, are elements of the facial relief that are in the form of depressions with clear boundaries. They are formed by the descent of fat fibers due to the stretching of the skin in the direction in which they are located. Thanks to the constant movement of muscles, the grooves provide free circulation of lymph and blood, the formation of bodily fluids, as well as “free breathing” for the muscles of facial expressions and pronunciation organs. What is the superior temporal sulcus, its location and consequences - let’s look at it in more detail.

Anatomy of the superior temporal sulcus The superior temporal sulcus is located deep in the temple. It connects the middle tip of the cheekbone to the top of the bridge of the nose. The recess is divided in half by a line running from the outer corner of the eye to the nose, which naturally has an angle of about 90 degrees. If the line runs between the sides crossing the upper lip, the base of the indentation will be at the top above the eyebrow. The length of the recess often varies from 6 to 5 cm, and with a deep recess it reaches up to 8 cm.
