Bromergon: use, action, side effects and contraindications

Bromergon is a drug from the group of dopaminergic drugs that is used to treat various diseases associated with hyperprolactinemia. The active ingredient of the drug, bromocriptine, is a dopamine receptor agonist and has an inhibitory effect on the release of prolactin.

Bromergon is produced by the Slovenian company Lek DD and is presented in the form of tablets with a dosage of 2.5 mg and 10 mg. The drug is used to treat infertility and dysmenorrhea due to hyperproduction of prolactin, hyperprolactinemia, postpartum lactation, acromegaly, benign nodular or cystic changes in the mammary glands and parkinsonism.

Despite its effectiveness, Bromergon has a number of contraindications and restrictions for use. The drug is not recommended for hypotension, hypersensitivity to the active substance, recent myocardial infarction, severe rhythm disturbances, mental illness, erosive and ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract and in the first trimester of pregnancy.

When using Bromergon, side effects may occur, such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, decreased blood pressure, headache, swelling of the mucous membranes, orthostatic hypotension and collapse. The drug can also cause whitening of fingers and toes when cold.

The interaction of Bromergon with other drugs should also be taken into account when prescribing it. The drug is incompatible with MAO inhibitors and alcohol, reduces the effect of antipsychotics and oral contraceptives, and also reduces akinesia caused by reserpine.

There is no data on overdose of Bromergon, but caution should be exercised if the recommended dose is exceeded.

Some special instructions should also be taken into account when using Bromergon. The drug may cause drowsiness, so its use is not recommended for people whose work requires increased attention and quick decision-making.

Thus, Bromergon is an effective drug for the treatment of hyperprolactinemia and related diseases. However, its use should be carried out only as prescribed by a doctor, observing contraindications and restrictions on use, as well as taking into account possible side effects and interactions with other drugs. If any adverse reactions occur, you should consult a doctor immediately.
