Bromhexine-Ratiopharm: description, application and features
Bromhexine-Ratiopharm is a mucolytic agent produced by the German company Ratiopharm GmbH. The active ingredient is bromhexine. The dosage form is represented by syrup with a concentration of 4 mg/5 ml.
Indications for the use of Bromhexine-Ratiopharm include acute and chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs with impaired sputum discharge. The mechanism of action of the drug is to stimulate the production of secretion by the glands of the bronchial mucosa and improve its discharge by increasing peristalsis of the respiratory tract.
Contraindications to the use of Bromhexine-Ratiopharm include hypersensitivity to bromhexine, pregnancy (especially in the first trimester) and breastfeeding.
Side effects may include gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia and exacerbation of peptic ulcers, as well as increased aminotransferase activity, allergic skin reactions and angioedema.
The interaction of Bromhexine-Ratiopharm with codeine-containing drugs may make it difficult to clear liquefied sputum. On the other hand, Bromhexine-Ratiopharm promotes the penetration of antibiotics (erythromycin, cephalexin, oxytetracycline) into the lung tissue.
There is no data on an overdose of Bromhexine-Ratiopharm. However, if the recommended dose is exceeded, side effects may occur.
Bromhexine-Ratiopharm is prescribed with caution for gastric and duodenal ulcers.
In general, Bromhexine-Ratiopharm is an effective mucolytic agent used for acute and chronic pathology of the respiratory tract with impaired sputum discharge. Before using the drug, you should read the instructions and consult your doctor.
