Greetings! Want to know the difference between makeup for guys on Halloween and makeup for girls? I will tell you about the features of men's makeup, explain step by step how to apply it correctly and, as a visual aid, I will give some of the most striking examples!
Guys can and should look no less scary than girls on Halloween. Moreover, if you carefully consider the costume and apply the makeup correctly for men, you will get a look that is worthy of the Best Halloween Costume Award! Do you want to take part in the casting for the best character of 2019-2020? Learn the rules of creating men's makeup and now try different versions on yourself and friends, honing your skills.
How is men's makeup different from women's?
The main thing that you must understand and explain to the person who will take part in creating makeup is that men do not need coloring in the usual sense of the word. Female makeup adapted for a guy will look ridiculous and funny. There are several rules, following which you can create decent images for guys without hints of femininity:
Try to choose colors in a single color scheme. No need to turn your face into a rainbow. For a bright look, 2-4 colors are usually enough.
Use foundation products without glitter.
Replace compact powder with loose powder or baby powder. No matter how careful and meticulous guys are when shaving, stubble will not allow compact powder to be applied as evenly as possible.
In principle, these are all the basic rules. Next, I will tell you how to make scars, wounds and cuts on the face, due to which you can achieve a hard look and deathly whiteness and much more interesting things.
Male skeleton image: how to do it
One of the most common is the image of a skeleton for a man. It fits perfectly with the holiday theme, and the skeleton costume is quick and easy to make from old black T-shirts. Skeleton makeup can be easily applied using theatrical or face painting. Follow the instructions:
Apply a layer of white makeup to your face. This will be the base.
Use black makeup to fill in the eye sockets and highlight the cheekbones and nose.
Using black paint and a thin brush, draw cracks and a mouth on the skin, like the guy in the photo.
Apply makeup to the neck area if it is open.
This is just one of the simple versions of the skeleton. With the skills of an artist, and even more so a make-up artist, you can depict an exact copy of a skull on your face with fine details. Alternatively, you can cover your entire face with black paint, highlight your lips with white, and put on a hood.
Joker
This image evokes associations with a Batman movie. Heath Ledger's charismatic hero Joker is so bright and creepy at the same time that everyone who likes to celebrate Halloween in a big way is happy to dress up as him. The Joker's peculiarity is a pale face with bruises, red smeared lips in a wide grin and always green hair.
We decided to choose this particular image for the holiday, don’t hesitate! At the party you will definitely be the center of attention. Both a teenager and an adult man can become the Joker. The makeup is so bright that it is almost impossible to recognize the true face and age under the mask.
How to do your own makeup at home:
Use face painting or theatrical makeup.
Apply white foundation to your face.
Under the eyes, create an imitation of bruises with shaded edges for naturalness.
Line your lips with red so that the edges are uneven and reach your ears. Create the illusion of a cut bloody mouth.
Simply color your hair green with crayons or use a wig. You can complement the look to your liking with lacerations or scars. They are made using liquid latex or a mixture of paper towels and eyelash glue under a skin base. In general, the makeup is simple, moderately scary and unusual.
Comic book hero in pop art style
The pop art style in makeup, and especially for men, appeared not so long ago. Properly applied makeup will give you clear associations with a computer image. I will teach you how to do just such makeup, believable and interesting.
The apparent simplicity of the makeup is deceptive. It is done in several stages, using bright colors and clear lines to indicate the main details. It is the lines that play a special role. Due to them, makeup acquires contours and does not blur.
Apply foundation to your face. Use theatrical or face painting in pastel colors, or regular foundation.
To give your face a flat and glossy effect, apply foundation with round dots.
In the area of the cheekbones, temples and wings of the nose, apply makeup darker than the main one.
Draw a black line along the growth of the eyebrows, mark the nose and eyes with lines.
As a result, all the relief lines on the face and large folds should be highlighted. Hair looks better if you dye it with crayons in an informal color: pink, light green, white.
The look of a vampire: how to apply cool makeup yourself
Ghouls fall into the category of “predictable and still scary images for men.” Decided to become a vampire for Halloween? Take the time to create a truly frightening makeup, because you want to stand out from the crowd with a creepy mask of a medieval bloodsucker? Follow the instructions and you will succeed:
Start by preparing your skin for makeup. Cleanse your face, apply toner and moisturizer. This is necessary for the makeup to apply perfectly.
Use a napkin to remove excess moisture.
Apply foundation with a brush or sponge.
Distribute the cream as evenly as possible to cover the hairs without gaps.
Process the neck and ears according to the algorithm above.
Whiten the skin with talcum powder or loose powder. Remove excess powder with a brush.
You should end up with a deathly white face. It's time to move on to the next step:
Apply a specific vampire blush with gray shadows to your cheekbones. They will give the face a sophisticated haggard look.
Cover the sides of the forehead and nose with gray shadows.
Highlight your eyebrows with black shadow or pencil.
Outline your eyes with black or gray shadows, carefully blending the lines for smooth color transitions.
To create an ambience, you can cover the upper eyelid with red or burgundy shadows.
Tint your lips and whiten them with powder.
The most important attribute of the image of a vampire is fangs. Use special “jaws” for vampire outfits, and don’t forget to “revive” them with fake blood. The finishing touch will be red or white lenses in the eyes and imitation of scars on the skin. Cover your hair in places with white gouache or silver mascara.
Don't forget your facial expression. Proper makeup is not everything. Give yourself more mysticism, look at those around you with “bloodthirsty” lust, as if they were the most delicious dish in life, and you will be guaranteed success at the Halloween party!
Zombie Makeup for Men: Tips for Applying Makeup
Another scary men's makeup - the living dead. Even in their most harmless form, zombies look terrifying. The advantage of this image can be considered its versatility. A zombie mask looks great on the face of a guy and a girl, so don’t rule out pairing options if you have someone to go to the party with. It will be more interesting and fun this way!
Create zombie makeup according to the following scheme:
Apply the desired shade to your skin. Zombies have grey-green faces. Based on this, experiment!
Think about the location of scars and wounds on your face. Use theatrical wax for imitation or replace it with homemade wax based on gelatin, paper napkins with eyelash glue.
The next step is teeth. Zombies have them rotten and terrible. Paint the enamel dark. To do this, rinse your mouth with water and food coloring of the desired shade (the paint can be easily washed off with soda).
Zombie eyes can be different. Both pale eyes and red ones with colored lenses, or with black circles and bruises, smeared with arrows, look equally impressive.
Be creative when it comes to the design of your mouth. Depending on the image, these can be completely white lips, black, with traces of blood or lacerations.
Choose your image and act boldly. Zombies are one of the options that allow you not to limit your imagination if you have the main attributes of a dead person: gray-green skin, rotten teeth and bruises under the eyes.
The image of a werewolf: what does it consist of?
A werewolf is a character from scary films and fairy tales, something between a man and an animal. Its distinctive feature is increased hairiness, so if nature has not deprived you of facial hair and you have no desire to shave it off even for the sake of a holiday, transform yourself into a werewolf. Prepare a wig with long hair about shoulder length and start doing your makeup.
Start by choosing a brush. You need the thinnest one. The makeup itself: black, gray, brown. The goal is to visually change the hairline. To do this, draw fine fur – strokes – in the forehead area, above the eyebrows and cheekbones. Cover the upper eyelids with dark shadows to match, highlight the lower eyelids with a black pencil or eyeliner. Be sure to think about the fangs. Make them yourself from children's soft plastic or buy ready-made ones at any carnival costumes and paraphernalia store. You can paint the nose black in the likeness of an animal.
DIY clown makeup
I'll start with a simple version of clown makeup. If you don’t have the skills of an artist or make-up artist and don’t have aqua or theatrical makeup on hand, it’s nothing. There is a “light” version of clown makeup that does not require any of the above.
Use a regular light-colored foundation and eyeliners: black and red. Start with preparation: apply a little toner and nourishing moisturizer to your face. Now that your skin is ready, cover it with a light shade of foundation. Cover your eyebrows in the same way as your lips – completely.
Move on to a smile. Draw the mouth shape you want with a black pencil. It should be an evil wide grin. Draw teeth between the contours. Triangular ones look especially scary. Draw out the space between them with a pencil. Highlight your teeth against a black background with matte white shadows. Cover the painted lips with red lipstick or pencil.
The next step is eyebrows. Make them with a clown kink or to give the clown a surprised look - semicircular. Draw a “cross” near the eyes. The lines should follow this order: from the lower eyelid down, from the upper eyelid up. Using horizontal lines, highlight the lower eyelids and blend.
Next, move on to the nose. Cover it with a red clown foam “puck” or paint the tip red. This is all. Wear any wig that matches the image and your scary clown costume is ready!
A more complicated option for those who have access to makeup and minimal skills in using it.
Start with the basics too. Apply white makeup to previously prepared (see above) facial skin. The exception is makeup based on face painting. In this case, no preparation is needed.
Use a sponge to evenly distribute the foundation. “Draw” a torn mouth on your face, similar to the one described by the Joker. It will be more realistic if you use liquid latex or paper napkins to create volume and the effect of torn edges.
If everything is clear with latex, then torn lips are done with napkins according to this principle: cover the corners of the mouth with several layers of napkins with eyelash glue, moving towards the cheekbones. As soon as the composition dries, trim the edges with small scissors. The result is a very natural imitation of exfoliated layers of skin. To prevent the napkins from standing out against the general background, cover them with a foundation. Apply bright lipstick without gloss to your lips. The movements should be sweeping so that the strokes are blurry.
Use the same principle to highlight your eyes. Cover the areas underneath with napkins and trim the edges. Makeup looks especially good with “caught” skin around the eyes in the shape of the letter V. Don’t forget about the areas of skin under the eyes that are free from napkins. Paint them over with red-violet shadows, “decorate” them with smudges of fake blood. It really looks creepy and more than natural, believe me!
