Captopril-Egis: an effective antihypertensive drug

Captopril-Egis is a drug that belongs to the group of antihypertensive drugs, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. This drug is produced in Hungary at the Egis pharmaceutical plant and contains the active ingredient captopril.

Captopril-Egis is used for the treatment of arterial hypertension, congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy, left ventricular dysfunction in stable condition in patients after myocardial infarction and diabetic nephropathy due to type 1 diabetes mellitus.

The drug has several dosage forms: 100 mg tablets, 12.5 mg tablets, 25 mg tablets and 50 mg tablets. At the same time, like any other drug, Captopril-Egis has contraindications and restrictions for use. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to the drug, the presence of anamnestic information about the development of Quincke's edema with previous prescription of ACE inhibitors, hereditary or idiopathic Quincke's edema, primary hyperaldosteronism, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Among the limitations to the use of the drug, an assessment of the risk-benefit ratio is necessary in the following cases: leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, aortic stenosis or other obstructive changes that impede the outflow of blood from the heart, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with low cardiac output, severe renal dysfunction, bilateral renal artery stenosis or stenosis arteries of a single kidney, the presence of a transplanted kidney, hyperkalemia and childhood.

In addition, Captopril-Egis has some side effects that can occur in various organs and systems. For example, from the nervous system and sensory organs, fatigue, dizziness, headache, central nervous system depression, drowsiness, confusion, depression, ataxia, convulsions, numbness or tingling in the extremities, visual and/or smell disturbances may occur.

Side effects from the cardiovascular system and blood (hematopoiesis, hemostasis) may include hypotension, incl. orthostatic, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrhythmia, vasculitis, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, anemia.

In addition, side effects may occur from the digestive system (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, dyspepsia, abdominal pain), liver (increased enzyme levels, jaundice), kidneys (impaired function, proteinuria), skin and subcutaneous tissue (rash , itching, angioedema, photosensitivity), as well as from the reproductive system (impotence, menstrual irregularities).
