Cefogen

Cefogen: an effective antibiotic in the fight against infections

Cefogen, also known by the international name Cefuroxime, is a pharmacological drug from the group of second-generation cephalosporins. It is manufactured in India by the pharmaceutical company Kadila Pharmaceuticals. Cefogen is widely used in medicine due to its effectiveness in combating various infections.

Cefogen is presented in the form of a powder for the preparation of an injection solution. Its active ingredient is Cefuroxime. The drug has a wide spectrum of action and is used to treat infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, infections of the ear, nose and throat, infections of the skin and soft tissues, genitourinary tract, joints, pelvic and abdominal organs, biliary tract and gastrointestinal tract. It can also be used to prevent infectious complications during surgery.

Despite its effectiveness, Cefogen has some contraindications. It is not recommended if you are hypersensitive to cephalosporins, penicillins or carbapenems, or if you have a history of bleeding or gastrointestinal diseases. The use of Cefogen is also not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Like any other medicine, Cefogen may cause some side effects. These may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal cramps and pain, dyspepsia, oral ulcers, anorexia, thirst, oral candidiasis, glossitis and others. Changes in liver and kidney function, decreased hemoglobin and platelet levels, allergic reactions and other adverse events may also occur.

When using Cefogen, it is necessary to take into account possible interactions with other drugs. Diuretics and nephrotoxic antibiotics may increase the risk of kidney damage, and NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) may increase the chance of bleeding. Probenecid, in turn, may affect the pharmacokinetics of Cefogen.

In case of an overdose of Cefogen, symptoms of central nervous system excitation and convulsions may occur. Treatment in such cases usually includes hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.

Cefogen is an effective antibiotic for fighting infections. However, before using Cefogen or any other drug, it is important to consult a healthcare professional or pharmacist for specific recommendations and dosage based on your health and medical history.
