Chorioencephalitis

Chorioencephalitis is an outdated medical name for a group of viral diseases caused by the rabies virus from the Herpesviridae family and characterized by fever, manic forms of psychosis (including schizophrenia), variability of the clinical course, as well as polymorphic neurological symptoms, combined either with meningeal manifestations or predominantly focal ones. Chorioecephalitis or encephalomeningitis is a combination of chorioeclematitis with damage to the meningeal membranes in the form of meningitis or meningorrhagia.
