Basic information about the drug

Ketorol (active ingredient - ketorolac) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has a pronounced analgesic effect. Its range of uses is quite wide, ranging from tooth pain to joint pain. Most often, the drug is prescribed to relieve acute attacks of osteochondrosis and arthrosis, accompanied by intense pain and inflammation.

Pharmacodynamics

The mechanism of action of ketorolac is due to blocking the activity of cyclooxygenases 1 and 2 (COX-1, COX-2) - enzymes that play a major role in the occurrence and development of pain, inflammation and fever in response to the action of a damaging factor.

The medicine is not addictive (Ketorol is untenable as a drug), does not impair respiratory function, and does not have a sedative (calming) or anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effect.

Pharmacokinetics

Bioavailability (absorption) of the active substance ranges from 80% to 100%. When taking the drug orally, the maximum therapeutic effect occurs within half an hour to an hour. When the solution is administered intramuscularly, the maximum concentration of ketorolac in the blood is achieved after 15-30 minutes. after the injection.

The drug has the ability to pass into breast milk. Therefore, women during lactation are advised to use the drug with caution.

Ketorolac is metabolized (broken down) in the liver and is excreted mainly by the kidneys. The half-life is 5.3 hours, lengthens in older people, and shortens in young people due to the high rate of metabolic reactions. A significant decrease in the rate of drug elimination from the body is observed in patients with renal failure (more than 13.6 hours).

Indications for use

Ketorol is used to relieve pain of various etiologies:

  1. toothache (including after tooth extraction);
  2. ;
  3. and joints (rheumatic pain);
  4. The lethal dose of Ketorol significantly exceeds 50 mg.

    Prevention of drug overdose consists of timely study of the instructions, compliance with its requirements and doctor’s recommendations. You cannot take Ketorol additionally if the effect of the tablet (or injection) you have already taken has not yet begun!

    For a single dose, the permissible dose of Ketorol is 10 mg (1 tablet). You are allowed to take no more than four tablets per day, i.e. 40 mg. It is not recommended to violate the dosage regimen. The duration of treatment should be no more than 5 days.

    Ketorol can be harmful or beneficial to the body - this is determined individually in each individual case. If there are contraindications to taking the drug, it is definitely harmful. But with such clinical symptoms as pain, inflammation, increased local temperature, the drug is not only not dangerous, but very useful. Therefore, we advise you to take it, like any other medicine, strictly according to the instructions or on the personal recommendation of a doctor.
