Clinomania

Clinomania (from the Greek words “kline” - bed, bed and “mania” - madness, mania) is a mental disorder in which a person experiences an obsessive desire to lie in bed.

People suffering from clinomania may spend most of the day in bed, getting out of it only when necessary. They avoid any activity and social contact, preferring to remain horizontal. Clinomania is often accompanied by depression and can be a symptom of other mental illnesses.

The causes of clinomania may be associated with psychological trauma, chronic fatigue, and may also be a consequence of certain neurological or endocrine disorders. Treatment typically includes psychotherapy, medication, and, if necessary, hospitalization. Overcoming clinomania requires an integrated approach with the participation of psychiatrists, psychologists and the support of the patient’s loved ones.

Clinomania. How did this word appear? Who is the author of the term? Among the thousands of terms that doctors currently use in science and practice, among the hundreds of terminological units used within the framework of social psychology, hardly one can claim the title of a new “lingua franca”
