Clubfoot Congenital

Clubfoot is a congenital disease of the musculoskeletal system. In the article we will consider in detail the causes of this disease, features of treatment and prognosis depending on the form of the disease.

**Clubfoot** is a deformity of the foot joint in which the angle between the foot and the lower leg is unnaturally large or small. There are 3 types of clubfoot: static - deformation occurs when the foot develops incorrectly in the womb; dynamic – it appears due to “torsion” of the muscles and tendons of the lower leg; perimetric - the defect occurs in a newborn who has an abnormality in bone development. The causes of these pathologies are heredity, complications during pregnancy, viral infections, and early birth. Treatment of clubfoot involves taking medications, massage and physiotherapy. Orthopedic orthoses and shoes are also used. Before treatment, diagnostics are carried out, including x-rays, ultrasound and laboratory tests. The prognosis depends on the form of clubfoot and the timeliness of treatment: in most cases, the disease is completely corrected, but there are situations when the child cannot fully restore motor activity.
