Conjoined Twins

Conjoined twins, also known as conjoined twins, are twins born with their bodies physically joined. This is a rare occurrence, occurring in about 1 in 200,000 pregnancies.

Union occurs during fetal development when a fertilized egg divides into two embryos, but the separation process is not completely completed. Parts of the embryos' bodies remain fused.

The connection can occur in different parts of the body - head, chest, stomach, pelvis. Twins may share vital organs such as heart, liver, and intestines.

Surgical separation is possible, but depends on the type and location of the connection. The surgeries are often risky and can result in the death of one or both twins.

Famous examples of conjoined twins: brothers Chang and Eng, Lakshmi and Gauri, Mary and Josephine Bliss. Their life and fate have always attracted great public attention.
