Cortical Zone Association

In physiology, one of the important concepts is the “cortical association zone” (CZA) - this is the central section of the cerebral cortex, which plays an important role in the integration of sensory nerve impulses coming from various modalities. K. z a. belongs to the upper parts of the associative field of the cortex, and is usually located near the projection of the peripheral zones and is highly sensitive to various sensory stimuli. It consists of three layers: thin (III), magnocellular (IV) and fusiform neurons (V), which encode and analyze information received through various sensory modalities. In K. z. there is an integration of information received from several modalities, for example, visual, auditory, tactile, proprioceptive and others. Each type of sensory information carries specific information encoded in different physiological processes. These processes transmit information to the KZ and their integration occurs there.

The role of K.z.a. consists in the formation of clear mental representations, such as images, sounds, feelings, perceptions. In addition, it participates in the formation of mnestic traces, which are stored in a person’s long-term memory, determine his sensory adaptation and allow him to associate new sensations with previously acquired knowledge. In other words, K.Z.A. is an important mechanism that ensures higher quality functioning of the cortex and the entire nervous system as a whole.

The reaction zone is considered one of the main and most complex areas of the cerebral cortex. It is located in areas of the precentral gyrus covering the superior parietal lobe and temporal lobe. One of the main activities of K.R. - this is the organization of the work of voluntary movements, monitoring the correctness of their execution and, if necessary, correcting errors. It also solves problems such as planning and selecting actions, forming schemes for upcoming actions based on information received about the environment, as well as integrating the received data. An important aspect of the process of functioning of the reaction zone is self-control, with the help of which the brain constantly monitors the correct execution of operations in the process of life. This function is especially important in multimodal tasks, such as making choices or making decisions on various issues, involving both visual and auditory or other sensory signals.
