Decapped

Decapen: description, application and features

Decapen is an antibiotic of the penicillin group, used in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of various localizations. It is produced by Beximco Pharmaceuticals in Bangladesh and has the international name "ampicillin".

The dosage form of Decapen is presented in capsules of 250 mg and powder for the preparation of oral suspension of 125 mg. The active substance is ampicillin.

Decapen is effective in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract (pneumonia, lung abscess, bronchitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis), otitis media, peritonitis, sepsis, endocarditis, kidney and urinary tract infections, cystitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis, gonorrhea, biliary system infections, whooping cough , listeriosis, typhoid and paratyphoid fever, skin and soft tissue infections, musculoskeletal infections and meningitis.

However, Decapen has a number of contraindications. It is not recommended for hypersensitivity to other penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenems, as well as for severe liver dysfunction and during breastfeeding (treatment must be suspended).

When using Decapen, side effects are possible, such as dyspeptic symptoms, dysbacteriosis, superinfections caused by resistant strains, as well as allergic reactions.

Interaction of Decapen with other drugs may affect the effectiveness and safety of its use. For example, taking Decapen can reduce the effect of oral contraceptives and increase the effect of anticoagulants and aminoglycoside antibiotics. When using Decapen and allopurinol together, the risk of skin rash may increase.

In case of an overdose of Decapen, a toxic effect on the central nervous system may occur, especially in patients with renal failure. Treatment is carried out symptomatically.

When prescribing Decapen, special attention should be paid to patients who are in a weakened state, as they may experience superinfection caused by drug-resistant microorganisms, such as yeast-like fungi and gram-negative microorganisms. In such cases, it is recommended to monitor the patient's condition and, if necessary, adjust treatment.

Decapen is a prescription drug and its use should be under the supervision of a physician. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the severity and nature of the disease, age and condition of the patient.

In general, Decapen is an effective and widely used antibiotic, but its use should be carried out with caution and under the supervision of specialists, taking into account the characteristics of the patient and the nature of the disease.
