Retinal degeneration is an eye disease in which the photoreceptor cells responsible for vision weaken and destroy. These cells are called rods and cones. They are located on the back surface of the iris and transmit information to the brain through the optic nerve. If the rods and cones are destroyed, visual information cannot be transmitted, resulting in vision impairment. Symptoms of the disease may appear gradually and increase in severity.
