Digoxin Nycomed

Digoxin Nycomed: description, use, side effects and interactions

Digoxin Nycomed is a cardiotonic drug belonging to the group of cardiac glycosides. It is used to treat various heart diseases such as congestive circulatory failure, atrial fibrillation, supraventricular paroxysmal tachycardia and atrial flutter.

The drug is produced by several companies, including Nycomed (Norway), Nycomed (Denmark), Hafslund Nycomed Pharma (Denmark). It is available as 62.5 mcg and 0.25 mg tablets and as 0.25 mg/ml injection.

The active substance of Digoxin Nycomed is digoxin, which increases the contractility of the heart muscle and improves blood circulation. However, if the dosage is incorrect or if there are certain contraindications, the drug can cause side effects and negatively interact with other medications.

Contraindications to the use of Digoxin Nycomed include glycoside intoxication. In addition, the drug can cause a number of side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, anorexia, bradycardia, ventricular extrasystole, AV block, headache, dizziness, impaired color vision, decreased visual acuity, scotomas, macro- and microopsia, as well as gynecomastia with long-term use.

Digoxin Nycomed may also interact with other medications, which may make the patient's condition worse. For example, adrenergic agonists can increase the likelihood of developing arrhythmia, antiarrhythmic and anticholinesterase drugs can cause bradycardia, and glucocorticoids, saluretics and other drugs that promote potassium loss can cause glycoside intoxication.

In case of an overdose of Digoxin Nycomed, symptoms such as arrhythmia, AV block, vomiting, and nausea may occur. Treatment in this case should include taking potassium preparations, unithiol and ethylenediaminetetraacetate.

It should also be remembered that Digoxin Nycomed should be used with caution in combination with diuretics, sympathomimetics and other drugs. Co-administration of corticosteroids with amphotericin B should be avoided, as this can lead to the development of hypokalemia and increased action of Digoxin Nycomed.

In general, the use of Digoxin Nycomed should only be carried out under the supervision of a doctor and in accordance with his recommendations. If the patient experiences any side effects or changes in health status, seek immediate medical attention.
