Diphtheria Nose

Diphtheria is an acute infectious disease caused by certain causative agents of corynebacteria. The disease is characterized by damage to the oropharynx, upper respiratory tract, and is characterized by a severe course. Pathology can occur in various forms. One such disease is nasal diphtheria. It can occur in both children and adults, which is a rather dangerous condition, since in this case an inflammatory process is observed in the mucous membrane of the nasal sinuses, leading to serious complications.

Nasal diphtheria is an acute inflammatory disease of the mucous membrane and skin of the nose caused by diphtheroids. This bacterium belongs to the Actinomycetes family and is an opportunistic flora of the human body. It is activated only in case of loss of the immune response against the background of a long course of other infectious and inflammatory processes. Manifestations of diphtheria rhinitis are mainly due to the local irritant effect of the microorganism. The proliferation of colonies and sprouts occurs superficially or in isolation, but always inside the nasal passages.

Signs of nasal diphtheria can be minor, and sometimes painful sensations lead to severe discomfort. Inflammation can become chronic and cause various complications of the respiratory tract. It is also important that diphtheria bacteria are highly invasive and spread from the skin and mucous surfaces to other organs. Therefore, the disease tends to quickly spread beyond the nasal area. In a complicated course, forms of the disease such as throat and brain inflammation are possible.
