A divisional hospital is a type of military hospital in the Russian Empire, designed to treat wounded and sick soldiers of infantry and cavalry divisions.
Divisional hospitals were created in the 60s of the 19th century during the military reform in Russia. They were usually located in cities where divisions were stationed. The number of beds in divisional hospitals in peacetime was about 200, in wartime it increased to 600-800.
The tasks of the division hospital included: receiving and treating sick and wounded lower ranks of the division, preparing convalescents for return to duty, and caring for the incurable. Treatment of officers was usually carried out in corps hospitals.
The divisional hospital was headed by a senior doctor with the rank of staff captain. The staff also included junior residents, paramedics, nurses and other support personnel.
Divisional hospitals were active during the Russian-Japanese and First World Wars, providing medical care to soldiers directly in the combat area.
