Doxycycline-AKOS: use, side effects and interactions with other drugs
Doxycycline-AKOS is an antibiotic belonging to the tetracycline group. The drug is produced in Russia by the companies Sintez AKO and Kurgan, and has the international name doxycycline. It is used to treat various infections caused by different types of bacteria.
Doxycycline-AKOS can be used to treat infections caused by intracellular pathogens such as chlamydia, mycoplasma, rickettsia and borrelia. The drug is widely used to treat respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia and sinusitis, as well as urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, Q fever, tularemia, Lyme disease and other diseases.
However, like any other drug, doxycycline-AKOS can cause side effects. Some of these include dizziness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, discoloration of tooth enamel and allergic reactions such as rash, itching and angioedema. The development of fungal infections, reinfections with resistant strains, eosinophilia and neutropenia is also possible.
Doxycycline-AKOS may also interact with other drugs. For example, its absorption may be decreased when taken concomitantly with iron supplements, sodium bicarbonate, aluminum, calcium or magnesium antacids, magnesium-containing laxatives, cholestyramine and colestipol. On the other hand, barbiturates, carbamazepine, phenytoin, and rifampicin may shorten the half-life of doxycycline, reducing its effectiveness.
