Dupuytren's contracture

Dupuytren's contracture is a contraction of the fingers as a result of cicatricial degeneration of the palmar aponeurosis. The causes of the disease are not fully understood. However, it is known that chronic microtrauma of the hand is a contributing factor.

Symptoms and course
At an early stage of the disease, a dense fibrous nodule appears on the palm, often along the tendon of the fourth finger. Subsequently, contracture of one or more fingers develops.

Treatment
At an early stage, conservative treatment is prescribed - physiotherapy, applications with ronidase, warm baths. If severe flexion contracture develops, surgical intervention is indicated.

After surgery and wound healing, therapeutic exercises, physiotherapy, and warm baths are performed.

Prevention
For prevention, it is recommended to avoid microtraumas of the hand and wear protective gloves.
