Endarteritis

Endarteritis is a chronic inflammation of the inner lining of the artery wall, which most often develops in the late stage of syphilis. Thickening of the arterial walls leads to progressive blockage of the arteries and the appearance of symptoms of insufficient blood supply to the affected areas (ischemia).

Often, endarteritis affects the cerebral arteries, which can trigger the development of meningovascular syphilis. Aortic endarteritis sometimes leads to blockage of the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart. Endarteritis of the arteries supplying the wall of the aorta (vasa vasorum) often causes an aortic aneurysm.

The syphilitic infection that causes endarteritis is relatively easy to treat with penicillin.

Endarteritis is a chronic disease that develops in the arteries and can lead to a variety of symptoms, including muscle pain, weakness and fatigue. It is one of the manifestations of infectious damage to the arterial wall during syphilis.

Endarteritis is becoming less common today, as the number of patients with this diagnosis has decreased, and treatment of syphilitic infection has become more effective. But this topic is still important: unfortunately, despite the preventive measures taken, the number of requests related to the treatment of this pathology is not decreasing. Therefore, it is important to study this disease
