Typhus is an infection caused by bacilli of the genus Rickettsia. It occurs in mild or severe form, which depends on the degree of damage to the human immune system. Depending on the location of the pathogen, typhus, typhoid, leptospirosis and tsutsugamushi typhus are distinguished. One of the most common and severe types of typhus is typhus, which is caused by the epidemic typhus bacillus. This infection was first described in the 19th century, however, since then it has continued to cause concern among specialists around the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), typhus kills millions of people each year, with the largest number of deaths occurring
