Esophagotomy is a surgical technique that is used to lengthen and restore the esophagus in case of various lesions, as well as after diseases that cause burns or damage to the esophagus. This procedure is performed according to strict indications in exceptional cases. This may be trauma or burn pathology of the esophagus, esophageal carcinoma or other acquired anomalies of the esophagus (poisoning with acid or alkali), diffuse esophangitis, when the lumen of the esophagus is significantly narrowed due to infectious inflammation of the mucous membrane. The operation consists of forming a segment of an artificial esophagus with its subsequent implantation between the diaphragm and the stomach.
