Fasciola

Fasciola is one of the most dangerous parasitic infections in the world. Fasciolosis is caused by the parasite Fasciola hepatica, which lives in the liver and bile ducts of many animals, including humans. The parasite enters the body through contaminated water or food.

Symptoms of fasciolosis include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, weakness, loss of appetite, and enlarged liver and gallbladder. In severe cases, biliary colic may occur, and in some cases, irreversible liver damage and death can occur.

Fascioła larvae die in less than 5% of infected people. This may lead to a lifelong risk of transmission of the parasite to the offspring of infected women through pregnancy.
