Fibrillar

Fibrillar (lat. fibrillaris) is an adjective denoting belonging to fibrils or containing them.

Fibrils are thread-like structures in a cell consisting of protein molecules. They form the cytoskeleton of the cell, give it support and provide mobility.

The term "fibrillar" is used to describe the structures and processes associated with fibrils:

  1. Fibrillar proteins are proteins that make up fibrils (actin, myosin, etc.).

  2. Fibrillar cytoskeleton - a cytoskeleton formed by fibrils.

  3. Fibrillar changes are pathological changes in tissue associated with disruption of the structure and function of fibrils.

  4. Fibrillar plaques are deposits of abnormal protein fibrils in brain tissue in some neurodegenerative diseases.

Thus, the term "fibrillar" indicates a connection with fibrils - important structural components of the cell.
