First aid for a lower leg injury

First aid for a lower leg injury: applying an anatomical splint
When conducting a secondary examination, you suspect that the victim has a serious lower leg injury. You decide to apply an anatomical splint.
Place bandages under the victim's legs
• Unroll 4 bands under your feet at ankle, calf and thigh levels. • Do not place bandages under the injury.
Place a rolled blanket or pillow between your legs and move your unaffected leg closer to your injured leg.
Tie the ends of the bandages to secure the injured limb to the healthy one.
• Tie the ends of each bandage, making knots on the side of the healthy leg.
• Check that the bandages are tied tightly, but not too tightly.
• If more than one finger fits under the bandage, tighten it tighter.
• When fixing the foot, apply a figure eight bandage.
