However, according to the test results, it turned out that not everything is so good: the gel does not cleanse the skin well, and the pH of the product is so alkaline that we suspected that it contained the most natural soap. Moreover, it does not even fit into the standards of GOST 31696-2012! We also found out that it dries out the skin. This is definitely not the best choice for dry skin; this gel can only be used to wash normal, healthy skin and not for a very long time. The only advantages of Garnier Essential Care Grape Extract are its rich foam and relatively low price. Agree that these are not the most convincing arguments in favor of this product.

Cleaning power - 2.1

As a rule, gels have a very good cleansing effect. In order to check this, we washed off two types of contaminants using Garnier “Basic Care Grape Extract”. A mixture simulating sebum was used as a base. We supplemented it with regular and waterproof cosmetics. You can see the results of tests with ordinary cosmetics in the photo.

As you can see, the product does its job well. It will take a little effort to remove regular makeup from your skin. But the second test, where we added waterproof liner and mascara, it didn't go so well. To cleanse leather, we scrubbed the sponge 24 times, compared to the average of 17 times in our tests. Our findings were confirmed by the test participants. In their reviews, they wrote that after washing with the gel, a thin film of the gel remains, the skin is noticeably refreshed, but there is no feeling of cleanliness when the skin creaks under your fingers.

pH - 1.0

To our surprise, the foam gel from a popular manufacturer turned out to be very alkaline. Its pH (approx. 10) is almost the same as soap! It does not even fit into the standards of GOST 31696-2012, which states that the pH of washing products should be within the range of 5-8.5. This product will damage the upper layers of the skin and cause severe dryness. You need a lot of softening additives so that the gel does not harm the skin.

Impact - 3.2

After disappointing pH results, we tested the product's effect on the skin. To do this, we measured its moisture content using a corneometer at different time intervals (10, 40, 90 minutes) after washing. The tests were carried out in a test group of 45 women with different skin types. They showed that the product dries the skin, and it takes more than two hours to restore its previous moisture. Therefore, after washing, it is best to immediately use a good nourishing cream that will help restore the skin.

Compound

What does Garnier “Basic Care Grape Extract” contain? Among the first components in it are, as often happens, detergents. Most of all here is sodium laureth sulfate (not to be confused with sodium lauryl sulfate), it is considered a fairly mild detergent component, but there are also more gentle ones. There is a softening component glycerin, it is in fifth place, most likely its content does not exceed 5%. There are even fewer active ingredients. Witch hazel extract is used as an antioxidant, but it can irritate the skin if used frequently. Peppermint is an antimicrobial ingredient that is not suitable for dry or sensitive skin. Menthol - used in anti-acne products for its antibacterial and refreshing effects, but this one is only suitable for normal to oily skin. Panthenol helps the skin retain moisture. There is another antimicrobial component in small quantities - salicylic acid. And in very small quantities (less than 1%) vitamin E and grape extract are present here. It is worth paying attention that the gel contains potentially allergenic fragrances. The composition of the product is confirmed by the inscription on the packaging - the gel is suitable for cleansing normal and oily skin. Those with dry and sensitive skin should choose another product.
