Hypernal: description of the drug, its indications for use and side effects

Hypernal is a drug that belongs to the group of calcium channel blockers of the dihydropyridine group. It is produced in Germany by Berlin-Chemie AG and has the international name Nifedipine. The drug is used to treat arterial hypertension, prevent angina attacks, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, Raynaud's disease, pulmonary hypertension and broncho-obstructive syndrome.

Hypernal is available in the form of tablets of various dosages: 10 mg, 20 mg (retard tablets). The drug should be taken strictly as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the nature and severity of the disease, as well as on the individual characteristics of the patient.

Like any medicine, Hypernal may cause side effects. Some can be serious and require immediate medical attention. Among the side effects of Hypernal, the following can be identified: facial flushing with a feeling of heat, palpitations, tachycardia, hypotension (up to fainting), angina-like pain, anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, dizziness, headache, stunnedness, changes in visual perception, impaired sensitivity in arms and legs, constipation, nausea, diarrhea, gingival hyperplasia (with long-term treatment), increased activity of liver transaminases, bronchospasm, myalgia, tremor, itching, urticaria, exanthema, exfoliative dermatitis, swelling and redness of the hands and feet, photodermatitis, hyperglycemia, gynecomastia (in elderly patients), burning sensation at the injection site (with intravenous administration).

Despite its effectiveness and widespread use, Hypernal has a number of contraindications and restrictions for use. The drug should not be taken in case of hypersensitivity to nifedipine, acute period of myocardial infarction (first 8 days), cardiogenic shock, severe aortic stenosis, heart failure in the stage of decompensation, severe arterial hypotension, tachycardia, pregnancy and breastfeeding. The use of Hypernal in pediatric practice is not recommended, since the safety and effectiveness of its use in children have not been established.

Before you start taking Hypernal, you should consult your doctor and report all diseases, medications you are taking, allergic reactions and other health conditions. It is important to follow your doctor’s recommendations on the dosage and regimen of taking the drug, not to exceed the recommended dose and not to interrupt treatment without the doctor’s consent.
