Gitty

**Gyttia** is a genus of herbaceous plants in the family Poaceae, which includes the widespread plants: foxtail spicata, barley and Pontine rye, which, in turn, have common biological and ecological characteristics and similar uses. The plant, known as "littje" (Ukrainian slang name), is not a gymnosperm in the traditional sense of the word. It comes from a part called the calyx at the base of the stem of glabrous gymnosperms such as larch and coniferous species, and usually contains spores capable of germination. Therefore, the plant is often called “gitis”, from ancient Greek. ὑπόλοιπον, denoting the remainder of the fabric, or, more typically, from the word getta cf. r. - Hebrew origin, meaning straw or reed in the Bible. In the Roman Empire, Gezei, meaning bald, was a common term for the plant in general.
