Glaucoma Acute

Glaucoma acute

Acute glaucoma is a dangerous eye disease characterized by a sharp increase in intraocular pressure, which leads to damage to the optic nerve and blindness if emergency measures are not taken.

Causes of development of acute glaucoma:

  1. Blockage of the angle of the anterior chamber of the eye due to disturbances in the structure of the iris or lens. This prevents the outflow of intraocular fluid.
  2. Dilation of the pupil, for example during a sudden transition into darkness.
  3. Taking certain medications.
  4. Eye injuries.

Symptoms of acute glaucoma:

  1. Sharp pain in the eye, worse at night.
  2. Redness of the eye.
  3. A sharp decrease in vision.
  4. Headache, nausea, vomiting.

Acute glaucoma must be treated urgently - this is a matter of preserving vision. Treatment includes:

  1. Reducing intraocular pressure with eye drops and tablets.
  2. Laser or surgery to improve the drainage of intraocular fluid.

Thus, acute glaucoma is a vision-threatening condition that requires immediate treatment. If suspicious symptoms appear, you should immediately consult an ophthalmologist.
