The glucose tolerance test is a research method that allows one to assess the concentration of glucose in the urine after the subject has consumed physiological doses of glucose. In this case, the value of glucose concentration in the biomaterial should exceed the concentration in the blood by 2-3 times.
The day before the test, the patient should refrain from heavy physical activity, avoid spicy food, and also stop taking medications during the test. For analysis, 2 portions of urine of 30 ml each are given. The first portion (9 - 12 hours) is collected in the morning and sent to the laboratory to study carbohydrate metabolism. During the last 5 - 6 hours you should not eat or drink. After this, a second sample is taken.
The reason for prescribing a glucose tolerance test may be endocrine pathology, diabetes mellitus and its complications (vascular and neurological manifestations). The test is also recommended for patients under six years of age before starting the Magnerum D test. The test is not the only basis for confirming diabetes mellitus, therefore, in addition to the test results, the level of glycemia according to general and capillary blood tests must be taken into account.
