Its causes are among those causes of tumors that are characterized by heat, and its signs are the already mentioned signs of tumors that accumulate pus and form in some parts of the liver. In this case, an acute fever occurs if the tumor is located in the fleshy substance of the liver, thirst increases and appetite decreases. Hiccups, nausea and vomiting occur - first with bile, then with a substance the color of verdigris or leek, then with black bile; Coldness appears in the extremities, the tongue turns black, and fainting occurs. All this is especially evident if the tumor is located in the convex part; if it is located in the cavity, then it affects the course of breathing only when the patient inhales much more air than usual, and the tumor stretches the abdominal barrier, puts pressure on it and restricts inhalation; sometimes it causes a cough. The tongue, wherever the tumor is, turns very yellow or red, then becomes blackish; then the color of the whole body changes, especially if the tumor is in the convex part.
When the patient's strength is significant, in particular the strength of the stomach, and especially when the tumor is in. depression, then the nature is locked; if the strength of the body and stomach is weak, then the nature is released. Hippocrates says: “Thick black stools at the beginning of a hot illness are a sign that there is a hot, large tumor in the liver.” The pulse is wavy, large, frequent and fast. A hot tumor either resolves, and then its symptoms disappear, or it accumulates pus, and then signs of an abscess appear, which we will mention shortly. Or the tumor hardens and the signs also turn into signs of a solid tumor, and the signs of a hot tumor disappear. Most often, the reason for the transition of a tumor to hardening is excessive cooling and binding of juices and the use of thickening drugs for a hot tumor. The differences between such a tumor and pleurisy are that with a tumor in the liver a cough is not followed by coughing, that the pain occurs on the right side, that the color of the tongue and the color of the body with such a tumor changes and that the pulse is not saw-toothed; the tumor can be felt with your hand if it is in the convex part. A tumor in the liver is indicated by the desire to breathe deeply and inhaling a large amount of air if the tumor is in the cavity, because the tumor then presses on the abdominal barrier and stretches it; Sometimes this causes a cough. The crisis with hot tumors of the liver, located in its convex part, and with tumors in the abdominal muscles, also hot, is expressed by bleeding from the nose, mainly on the right side, or the discharge of sweat and urine of commendable quality; with tumors in the cavity, it is expressed in perspiration or bilious diarrhea or vomiting.
