Granulomatosis of the Newborn

Neonatal granulomatosis (gn; syn. Leflerchey/encephalitic granuloma) is a severe infectious disease of the central nervous system that develops in utero and manifests itself in the first weeks of life.

The main cause of granulomatosis in newborns is a viral inflammation of the brain caused by the pathogen - cytomegalovirus (CMV) type I. CMV-affected nerve tissue has an uneven color due to the presence of many small white dots - granules. This points to the names given in medical textbooks for this disease - encephalitis (inflammation of the meninges), Lefler's encephalitis and granulomatosis (due to granulomas). Currently, it is said that the cause of the pathology is the causative agent of CMV
