Grippostad S: composition, indications, contraindications, side effects and special instructions

Grippostad S is a combination drug containing paracetamol, ascorbic acid, caffeine and chlorphenamine. It belongs to the group of combined analgesics-antipyretics and is used for the treatment of pain of mild or moderate intensity, including headache, sore throat and neuralgia, as well as for the treatment of fever due to influenza and other infectious and inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract.

The drug is manufactured by Stada Arzneimittel AG in Germany and is available in capsule form containing 375.5 mg of active ingredients.

However, before using Grippostad S, you need to familiarize yourself with the contraindications and side effects that may occur when using it.

Contraindications to the use of the drug include severe liver and kidney dysfunction, genetic absence of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, blood diseases, angle-closure glaucoma, benign prostatic hypertrophy with the formation of residual urine, cardiac arrhythmias, severe arterial hypertension, pregnancy and lactation. In addition, the drug is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 15 years of age and in patients sensitive to any of the components of the drug.

Side effects may include allergic reactions such as rash, itching, hives, and hypersensitivity reactions to paracetamol such as facial swelling, sweating, nausea, shortness of breath and a drop in blood pressure to shock. On the other hand, side effects from the digestive system may occur such as dry mouth and dyspepsia, as well as impaired liver function with long-term use in high doses.

The interaction of the drug with other drugs also requires some caution. When Grippostad S is used simultaneously with drugs that induce liver enzymes, the hepatotoxicity of paracetamol increases.

In case of an overdose of Grippostad S, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, pain in the epigastric region, sweating, tachycardia, arrhythmia, pallor of the skin, and a few days after the overdose - liver damage may occur. Therefore, it is necessary to follow the dosage and not exceed the recommended dose.

In addition, it should be borne in mind that caffeine, one of the components of the drug, can cause insomnia, restlessness, irritability and anxiety. Therefore, the drug should be taken no later than in the evening.

In general, the use of Grippostad S should be carried out only as prescribed by a doctor, taking into account the dosage and caution, especially in the presence of contraindications and other medical conditions.
