Gummas are nodular lesions of bone tissue. They were first mentioned in the 2nd century BC. In humans, they were formations that deformed joints and bones, caused disruption of normal mobility, and in severe cases, skeletal deformation. In this case, cavities formed in the bone plate, filled with a mushy mass, which we call necrotic tissue. These pathological changes were discovered in various peoples of our world and were called “gumma”.

Gummy disease is caused by sclerosis of cancellous bone as a result of chronic inflammation. Bone degeneration develops most often in the direction from the spongy layer to the compact layer.
