Ingooophoritis

Ingooophoritis is an inflammation of the uterine appendages: fallopian tubes and ovaries. The causative agents of the disease are staphylo-, streptococci, Escherichia, gonococci, Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other microbes. In most cases, the ovaries are affected secondary to salpingitis.

The inflammatory-changed fallopian tube fuses with the ovary, forming a single inflammatory conglomerate - a tubo-ovarian formation. Suppuration is accompanied by the formation of a single purulent cavity with a pyogenic capsule - a tubo-ovarian abscess.

There are acute, subacute and chronic stages of the disease. In the acute stage, pain in the lower abdomen, high fever, chills, and menstrual irregularities are observed. In chronic cases - abdominal pain, metrorrhagia, frequent relapses.

Diagnosis is based on medical history, clinical picture, examination of the microflora of the genital tract, ultrasound, and laparoscopy.

Treatment includes antibacterial, anti-inflammatory therapy, and physical therapy. Sanitation of foci of infection is indicated; in severe cases, surgical treatment. The prognosis for complete restoration of reproductive function is not always favorable.
