Lesson on drawing an anime character's face, eyes, ears, and nose

Hi all! As you read this tutorial, keep in mind that I am not a professional artist, and there is no right or wrong way to draw.

DRAWING THE FACE

This section of the tutorial is focused on the shape and structure of the anime face, then I will explain how to draw each individual area

Draw the chin and cheeks. Make sure that both parts are symmetrical. Despite the fact that everything looks primitively simple, one small mistake can ruin everything.

Let's take a closer look at how to draw an anime face.

Draw the neck. Pay attention to its width.

Draw the nose and mouth. Most anime artists will draw the nose and lips VERY small. However, there are those who do things differently. It all depends on your taste

Add eyes. Notice how far they are from each other and close to the nose.

Add eyebrows. Here you need to pay attention to how much longer they are than the eyes.

Add the ears and the face is complete. Notice I added a hairline. Big head... LOL.

VIEW 3/4

This is the standard head size (for anime). After adding hair, it won't look as big. Hair plays a very important role in anime, so important that it requires its own lesson.

Pay attention to the angle of the ear in relation to the eye.

The structure of a man's face is slightly different (in most cases). It is usually longer and the chin is more pronounced.

When drawing a man's neck, you can make it the same as a woman's neck (usually only for young people and teenagers). Or you can draw it more developed, as shown in the picture.

SIDE VIEW

Style 1

More realistic and more detailed. Their noses are not too pointed. The eyes are smaller. The chin of men protrudes more than that of girls.

Style 2

The heads are more rounded. The eyes are much larger. Here you can connect the tip of the nose to the chin in an almost straight line.

METHODS OF FACE SHADING

There are a huge number of face shading techniques, just a few of them are presented here.

Try to leave a small gap between the shadow and the nose. Typically, there is a highlight on the top of the cheek and lip.

DRAWING THE EYES

Creating a simple eye:
Step 1

Draw a shape similar to this to define the boundaries of the eye white. This figure is needed only as a basis; it will be deleted later.

Step 2

From each corner, draw short lines pointing outward, then connect them to create an arch.

Step 3

Next, fill the resulting arches with color.

Step 4

Add the details shown in the picture.

Step 5

Fill in these details and draw the shape of the iris.

Remove the squirrel lines and you're done. You have drawn a simple eye.

Creating a more complex eye:
Step 6

Continuing with Step 5. Draw some eyelashes on the upper left corner of the eye.

Step 7

Create “soft” lashes on both sides of the upper eyelid. Read the instructions in the picture.

Step 8

Add smaller eyelashes to the lower eyelid.

Step 9

Add the folds above the eye and the eyelids are ready.

Remember that eyelids are usually very thin and don't have as many upward-pointing lashes as real human eyes.

How to draw an anime girl's face step by step (detailed lesson)

  1. Step 1

There were many lessons on drawing a specific picture, but there was not a single lesson that would help you draw your own unique anime. And so, for the approaching three hundredth lesson, I decided to make a special lesson on how you can draw a face for your anime girl. We start with the contour of the face. Many people have a problem with the shape of the face, but I found the easiest way to draw a face. Draw an oval. From the edges of the oval we draw two lines down so that they meet.

Step 2

Then we draw the location of the jaw arch with a dotted line just above the point of contact of the line. We draw straight lines to the dotted line and from the dotted line we draw lines to the resulting point. The arc can be drawn higher, but know that the higher the arc, the larger the chin.

Step 3

Draw the shape of the face. All unnecessary lines were erased. Draw lines to construct the eyes and mouth. Let's start drawing the eyes. What kind of eyes are there in general?

Step 4

Anime eyes, it seemed. they just don’t draw like that. This is a whole science. After reading several articles, I picked up what the eye would look like in reality and how it would look in anime style.

Step 5

It all depends on the little things. For example, from the location of the lower and upper, from the level of the corners of the eyes, each eye is individual and remembering everything... is extremely difficult, so I took standard eye shapes. But just drawing eyes is not enough. We need to give them emotions. Emotions are given not only by the shape of the eyes, but also by the eyebrows. They also play an important role.

Step 6

Many people don’t know how to draw eyes at all. It's simple! The main thing is to understand and practice ^^. We draw any shape of the Upper eyelashes, we draw the lower ones at any level.

Step 7

We decide on the shape of the pupil. It can also be done by anyone, but do not forget that the pupil should not go beyond the eyelash line, I took an oval pupil. P.S. You don’t have to draw like me. If you take something of your own, you will better understand how it is drawn.

Step 8

Now is the time to make room for the sparkle in the eyes. Draw small circles. You can have several, you can have one big one. The main thing is that they cover the pupil (at least a little). P.S. Crying enthusiastic or loving anime girls have more sparkle in their eyes.

Step 9

Step 10

We begin to paint over the pupil. It is best to do this with the darkest pencil.

Step 11

Shade the lower part of the eye. Without touching the reflection on the eye. Please note that the light part of the eye consists of two shades.

Step 12

Now let's shade the upper part of the eye. The pencil is slightly lighter than the pupil, but darker than the bottom of the eye. Did you know that the creators of anime borrowed from Walt Disney to convey emotions through the eyes?

Step 13

When drawing an eye, make sure that the distance between the eyes is not too small, but not too large. Lines will help you draw the eyes the same. We drew the eyes perfectly. I should draw a mouth.

Step 14

The mouth is one of the leaving emotions. Every emotion has its own mouth^^

Step 15

Well, the mouth is not so difficult. Just as you already know from the traditional expressions of emotions (smile, tears), anime has its own unique icons like a drop on the hero’s head characterizing the stupidity of the events taking place or the redness of the cheeks, the so-called embarrassment of the character, etc. And by the way “Chewing handkerchiefs” (character disorder) as we call it, is unique to anime and does not occur anywhere else.

Step 16

Let's move on to the most difficult part of the lesson - HAIR. Yes, yes, very difficult. but still, the anime girl looks stupid without hair. There are many varieties of hair. Some are shown in the photo. P.S. when creating your character, you can take these hairstyles

Step 17

In general, drawing hair begins with bangs. We draw each strand as if superimposing them on top of each other. But notice that the hair is drawn just above the outline of the head.

Step 18

Draw the bottom part of the hair. I could have used ponytails, I wanted long hair.

Step 19

Shade the hair with any pencil. Use an eraser to create shine on the hair. The drawing is ready. Now it's your turn to draw your anime girl. I wonder who will be more original? lesson prepared by moonflower. P.S. I comment on each drawing.

How to draw an anime girl's face and hair

Original

  1. Step 1

Draw the base of the head. Divide it into lines on which we will draw the eyes, nose, mouth.

Step 2

We draw and shade the eyes. From the beginning, take a B2 pencil and shade the entire eye except the inner circle. Then we take B4 and draw the pupil, outline the outline of the entire eye, pay attention to the outline at the top being thicker than at the bottom.

Step 3

We begin to shade the hair. We start with the bangs. The stroke is applied in long and abrupt lines. The lines are slightly inclined. Pencil B4.

Step 4

Next, the shading goes from the side of the face. The slope is a little steeper than on the bangs. Pencil B4.

Step 5

Let's finish drawing the hair. Note that some of the hair belongs to the bangs and that's why they have a different slope and shading. AT 4

Step 6

We draw and shade the hand. From the beginning we use a B2 pencil and shade it with light strokes. Then we apply shadows with a B4 pencil.

Step 7

We shade the girl’s face from the bottom. AT 2. The drawing is ready.

For this lesson I used B2 HB B4 pencils. We draw part of the head with an HB pencil and mark on it the lines for the eyes, mouth and nose.

Step 2

Draw the eyes, mouth and nose with a B4 pencil.

Step 3

You noticed that the second eye is not finished a little. A strand of hair will lie in this place and so as not to erase it, we will not draw it completely. And to make it even, apply a pencil.

Step 4

We shade the eyes with a B4 pencil without touching the inner small circles.

Step 5

We draw hair with an HB pencil. It's better to start with bangs on the right.

Step 6

Draw some strands of hair with a B4 pencil

Step 7

Take a piece of any paper, wrap it around your index finger and rub the pencil in certain areas of your hair. Where we rubbed it we draw again. The drawing is ready.

How to draw the head of an anime girl with short hair

We draw the eyes and shade them.

Step 4

Shading with even strokes. Now you know how to draw the head of an anime girl with short hair.

If you want to learn how to draw an anime girl's face, this detailed tutorial with pictures will help you. Prepare all the necessary materials and we can begin the creative process. As a result, we will have this basis for the future anime character, let's get started!

Draw a neat oval of the face. Mark it into four parts. This will be our basis for the anime face, due to which the picture will turn out beautiful and symmetrical.

We begin to draw the oval of the girl’s face. In anime style, most often they draw pointed chins with clear lines, and the heads themselves widen slightly upward. Let's add a thin neck by drawing two lines.

Approximately in the middle of our oval, in the place where the base lines intersect, we begin to draw the eyes. They should be very large, in anime style. The distance between them should be equal to the width of one eye. Eyebrows in anime are drawn thin, in the form of a couple of simple strokes.

We divide the lower part of the anime girl's face into two parts. Draw a dot nose and a small mouth. The distance from the chin to the lips should be equal to the distance from the lips to the nose. Also at this stage we carefully draw the pupils and irises, eyelashes, and ears of the character. We gradually remove unnecessary lines so that they do not distract us and make the drawing dirty.

Now we should draw the hairstyle of our anime girl. Do not forget to step back a little from the edge of the head when starting to draw the hair, otherwise the hairstyle will not look voluminous.

We remove unnecessary lines and add even more strands to the hairstyle to make it look dynamic. At this stage, I shade the pupils and iris, draw the anime girl’s eyelashes with a pencil so that the eyes look bright and expressive. Please note that in some places the lines are thicker than usual.

Next, you can color the drawn face of the anime girl to your own taste. Now that you've learned how to draw an anime girl's face, you can draw some characters of your own and, of course, post your drawings in the comments!
