Calcium-D3 Nycomed

Calcium-D3 Nycomed: a Norwegian drug for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis

Calcium-D3 Nycomed is a combination drug that contains calcium carbonate and colecalciferol (vitamin D3). The drug is produced in Norway by Nycomed Pharma AS and Hafslund Nycomed Pharma and belongs to the group of calcium-phosphorus metabolism regulators.

The drug is available in the form of chewable tablets and is used for the prevention and complex treatment of osteoporosis and its complications, including bone fractures. In addition, it can be used to compensate for the lack of calcium and vitamin D3 in older people, as well as during pregnancy and breastfeeding (but not more than 1500 mg of calcium and 600 IU of vitamin D3 per day).

However, before using Calcium-D3 Nycomed, you need to familiarize yourself with the contraindications and possible side effects. The drug is not recommended for use in cases of hypersensitivity, hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, urolithiasis, sarcoidosis and metastases of tumors in the bones, as well as an overdose of vitamin D3. Side effects may include dyspeptic symptoms, an increase in calcium levels in the blood and urine with long-term use.

In addition, it is necessary to take into account the possibility of interaction of Calcium-D3 Nycomed with other drugs. For example, calcium and vitamin D3 increase the absorption of tetracyclines from the gastrointestinal tract, reduce the effectiveness of bisphosphonates and fluorides, and may also interact with corticosteroids and diuretics.

If symptoms of drug overdose occur, such as nausea, vomiting, polyuria and others, it is necessary to reduce the dose of the drug or temporarily stop taking it. With a chronic overdose of vitamin D3, calcification of blood vessels and tissues can occur.

Calcium-D3 Nycomed should not be used simultaneously with vitamin-mineral complexes containing calcium and vitamin D3. If the concentration of calcium or creatinine in the blood serum increases, the dose of the drug should be reduced or treatment should be temporarily stopped.

In general, Calcium-D3 Nycomed is an effective and safe drug for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. However, before using it, you must consult a specialist and strictly follow the dosage and administration recommendations.
