Cataract M. - myotonic cataract mit. a complication of poliomyelitis or diphtheria paralysis of the nervous system of inflammatory origin, occurring in the form of secondary cataracts in the form of a suture - dense, yellowish or white films located directly behind the pupil and more sharply marked with a dilated pupil. For the treatment of secondary K., eye drops and oxygen instillation into the eye are used, as well as vitamins A and C, drugs that increase intraocular pressure and reduce retinal hypoxia (cysteine, glutathione, potassium citrate), and sometimes absorbent agents. Treatment for K. is only surgical. An extracapsular extraction of the lens or a complete ectomy is performed with the replacement of the lens with an artificial one or a graft.
