Progressive cataract (progressive clouding of the lens)
The progression of cataract development is the slow, continuously progressive nature of the development of eye cataracts. The prevalence of cataracts is 2 - 3%, excluding age group - 48 - 78%. 80% of patients develop cataracts in adulthood, after 40 years, and in 95% - from 60 to 70 years. Experts divide cataracts into four forms: simple, phase, complicated, combined. The most common is a simple cataract, in which the moisture of the anterior chamber initially becomes cloudy at an equal distance from the center, has a round or oval shape, and expands as it grows. In the phase form, damage to the posterior capsule is observed, starting with its diffuse softening followed by the formation of vacuoles and an increase in size; a sclerotic core may appear. It is also easy to carry out operations and does not increase the duration of the disease. Complicated cataracts can be subcapsular - irritation of the edge of the fibrous capsule occurs due to the presence of lens fragments in it, fluctuation appears, the vitreous body noticeably shifts and its color changes. The subcapsular form is accompanied by a large number of complications. Mixed cataract is the result of a violation of pigment metabolism, expansion of the major axis, which leads to the formation of gray or white strings. When a mixed cataract is located near the internal muscles of the crystal ball, vision deteriorates completely, in rare cases residual vision is preserved.
