Cataracts are various types of opacities of the eye lens that occur as a result of various diseases and functional conditions of the body and lead to decreased vision. Mostly small and asymptomatic diffuse and layered white K. (leukocornea) are found - almost always secondary; large white or gray, cloudy, diffuse or layered forms with a strong transient or permanent picture of “blurred eye” or “loss of clarity of vision”, more rapidly progressing and prone to phakitis lithium A (fragmented cataracts) K. (synonym: floppy cataract). Other types of opacities can cause significant loss of vision but are often discovered incidentally. Severe, that is, poorly differentiated, corneal cataracts are subject to surgical treatment.
