Keal

Keal: a medicine for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases

Keal (international name: sucralfate) is a medicine produced in France by the company Biogalenika Laboratory. It belongs to the pharmacological group of astringent, enveloping and antacid drugs based on aluminum.

Sucralfate, the main active ingredient of the drug, is an aluminum compound that has an enveloping effect on the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract. Keal is available in the form of 1 gram tablets.

This medicine is used to treat and prevent various gastrointestinal diseases. The main indications for use of Keala include:

  1. Peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, including prevention and treatment.
  2. Damage to the gastrointestinal mucosa caused by stress or NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), also including prevention and treatment.
  3. Hyperacid gastritis.
  4. Gastroesophageal reflux disease.
  5. Hyperphosphatemia in uremic patients on hemodialysis.

Despite its effectiveness, there are some contraindications to the use of Keala. It is not recommended for hypersensitivity to the drug, dysphagia or gastrointestinal obstruction, gastrointestinal bleeding, renal failure, pregnancy and in children under 4 years of age.

Some side effects may occur when using Keala, including indigestion, constipation or diarrhea, abdominal, back and head pain, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea, skin rash, itching and hives.

Particular attention should be paid to the interaction of Keala with other drugs. It may reduce the absorption of fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, ofloxacin), tetracycline, theophylline and phenytoin. Caution should also be exercised when concomitantly using drugs containing aluminum, especially in patients with renal insufficiency. Antacids and histamine H2 receptor blockers may reduce the activity of Keala.

There is no evidence of an overdose of Keala, however, with large doses, medical attention may be required.

It is important to note that in patients with renal failure, Keal should be used with caution and under medical supervision, as the drug can accumulate in the body and cause aluminum intoxication.

In any case, for accurate and up-to-date information about the use of Keala and possible side effects, you should contact your healthcare professional or pharmacist.
