Suprascaphoid bone

The supranavicular bone (lat. os supranaviculare, ossiculum talonaviculare) is an accessory bone of the human foot. Located above the navicular bone on the dorsum of the foot.

The suprascaphoid bone is quite rare, occurring in approximately 3-10% of people. It is usually oval or triangular in shape and connects to the talus and navicular bones. The size of the bone varies from a few millimeters to 1-2 cm.

In some people, the supracavicular bone may fuse with the scaphoid or talus. Sometimes it is missing on one side of the foot. The presence of this bone usually does not cause any problems and is considered an anatomical feature. However, in rare cases, the suprascaphoid bone may cause pain when walking due to pressure on the soft tissue.
