Cromoglin: properties, uses and side effects

Cromoglin (or cromoglycic acid) is an antiallergic agent produced by Merkle GmbH in Germany and Austria. It is widely used to treat various allergic diseases such as asthma, rhinitis, conjunctivitis and others.

The dosage form of Cromoglin includes an inhalation solution, dosed aerosol, nasal aerosol, nasal spray, eye drops and other forms. The active substance is cromoglycic acid.

Cromoglin exerts its therapeutic effect by blocking the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators, thereby reducing the inflammatory response and symptoms of allergic diseases.

The use of Cromoglin is recommended for allergic rhinitis, hay fever, bronchial asthma, proctitis, coloproctitis, conjunctivitis and other allergic diseases. However, there are contraindications to the use of Cromoglin, such as hypersensitivity to the drug, pregnancy, breastfeeding, children under 2 years of age (up to 5 years for a metered dose aerosol) and the presence of polyps in the nasal cavity (for intranasal forms).

Side effects when using Cromoglin include dermatitis, urticaria, vascular edema, dizziness, irritability, insomnia, hallucinations, nausea, gastroenteritis and others.

Although Cromoglin may have side effects, it is considered a relatively safe drug when used correctly. However, as with any other medicine, it is recommended to consult a doctor for advice and clarification of the dosage and duration of use of Cromoglin.
